If you were an animal what would you be? And why?

If I were an animal I would be a dog; loyal, friendly, and man’s best friend.

What made you want to be a Stylist?

I love, and have always loved the beauty and fashion industry. It is a beautiful thing when your passion and career can come together.

Give us a random fact about yourself?

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Fashion Institute of Technology while working full time as a hairstylist, interning in Product Development for Estee’ Lauder Bumble and bumble, and commuting over 4 hours on the train in NYC everyday.   Whatever your mind can conceive, you can achieve.

What’s the perks of your job?

The gratification. Being a hair stylist is rewarding, on a creative, personal, and professional level.

Whats the best advice you’ve ever been given?

“Find something you enjoy doing, and figure out a way to make a career doing it. ” -My parents

What is your life motto?

Gorgeous hair is the best revenge.

What decade do you wish you could have experienced?

For style, the “Jackie-O decade” (late 1950’s early 1960’s). Simple silhouettes, classic colors, perfect tailoring, fabulous sunglasses, and a gorgeous mid-length hair with a voluminous blow out.

Thanks Heidi. We are so grateful to have you on the Groove Jet team!!

Men’s Grooming…. By: Heidi Rose

Men’s (hair) Grooming      mens
  • (Shampoo and) Condition your hair (even if it’s fine)
·         Conditioning is often a step skipped by men, especially men with sort and fine hair. (Mostly) all hair needs to be conditioned. It soothes the hair cuticle allowing it to reflect more light thereby making hair appear shinier, naturally.
    • It strengthens hair and prevents breakage.
    • It works to help to restore some moisture lost in the hair strand.
    • Improves the look and the results of a haircut.
      • Example: Seaweed Conditioner -Gently detangles, nourishes, softens, and helps to manage freshly washed hair.
    • Helpful hint: Rinse out conditioner with cool water, you will feel refreshed and your hair will appear healthier.
  • Get a (quality) Haircut
    • Go to a professional.
    • Show the stylist the cut and style you desire in a picture. This is really the best way to avoid confusion and communicate your desired look.
    • The right haircut can make you look thinner, younger and healthier, which in turn boots self-confidence, (and there is nothing sexier than that).
    • Take advantage of complimentary “clean ups”. Your stylist worked hard at creating an impressive look for you. Now it’s your job to maintain his/her work.
    • Helpful hint: A clean neck and ear line can make an original haircut look good an extra 2 weeks.
·         Use (the right) hair Products
·         A great haircut deserves a great product.
·         Products are important to achieve desired styles.
·         The easiest way to pick a product is to buy whatever your stylist uses. Have her/him show you how much to use and how to use it. Stylists are professionals with education and expertise, ask questions, they are happy to answer!
·         Examples: Grooming Cream Creates not-so-perfect, lived-in texture giving natural separation, subtle hold, and a soft, smooth satin finish.
  And…
·         Sumo Tech A mid-weight molding compound that combines the texture and effect of a wax, paste, and cream. (this is a top seller product for men—especially the “buttoned-up-by-day, funk-it-up-by-night” types)
·         Helpful hint: Don’t apply products right out of the shower, it dilutes the product. Towel dry your hair until it’s about 85%
dry.
