We Love Waxing!

It is that time of year where we are shedding our clothes and baring some skin! Are you a wax skeptic? We’re not and let me tell you why.

Waxing vs Shaving

First, I love that baby smooth feeling that I get after waxing, don’t get me wrong, I know you get that when you shave too but after one day of shaving my legs are back to stubble. When I wax I have that baby smooth feeling for days.

Unlike shaving, that needs to be done frequently, waxing can be schedule for every few weeks to a month. Waxing pulls the hair from the root where as shaving is just cutting the hair.

Shaving can also cause ingrown hairs and razor burn. Now, after a fresh waxing the skin may appear a little pink but this usually will not last more than a couple of hours.

Second, waxing over time can thin out the hair so you are actually growing less. If you don’t believe me you should check out my left eyebrow that I waxed one to many times myself when I was a teen. Opps!  Now I always leave my waxings to the professionals.

Are you ready to join the waxing band wagon?

Waxing Tips
For best results hair should be 1/4 of an inch long. If it is too long then a lot of time is spent trimming to 1/4 of an inch.

If you are worried about the pain take an Advil prior to your appointment. Remember that you are pulling out hair by the roots so it may be uncomfortable during the process but once it is completed there is no pain.

It is a good idea to exfoliate the day before and do not wear lotion the day of your waxing.
Never wax after you have been sunbathing.

Does your skin have the winter blues?

So the weather outside may be frightful and freezing but don’t fret because we have some tips for you!

Number one rule of winter- do not take super hot showers!

I will repeat that, do not take super hot showers. I am the queen of taking them myself, but a really hot shower can dry out your skin more. The nerdy science of it is that in the winter the air is much dryer and there is less moisture in the air. A hot shower can further help to dehydrate your skin.

Next, let’s talk about products.

What you use on your skin in the summertime may not be what you will want to use on your skin in the winter. In the cold months, change your facial cleanser to a milder one and use a more rich moisturizer. We love Dermalogica’s Super Rich Repair. This product helps to replenish thirsty skin while also acting to as a salve to combat extreme cold and environmental conditions.

Number two rule of winter- moisturizer is a girl’s best friend.

Load up on it! The best time to moisturize your body is right after your not so hot shower when your skin is still wet. If your skin is dry and cracking bust out the Vaseline for a few days.

Finally, let’s not forget about our poor cracking cuticles.

Winter season we are less stressed about getting our pedicures but our nails still need some TLC. Applying solar oil to your finger and toenail cuticles in the morning and evening will help to keep them from cracking. If you really have some dry cracked hands or feet again, bust out the Vaseline and wear cotton gloves/socks to bed.

Luckily, we don’t have too much of a winter here in the Carolina’s but we still need to protect and nourish our skin for those few months.

The Radiant Bride

Wedding dress, check.
Photographer, check.
Venue reserved, check.
Glowing blissful bridal skin, ugh!

What girl doesn’t want to be glowing on her wedding day?
It is important for the bride to be to take special care of her skin at least one month prior to the wedding day. Achieving an outer glow can be as simple as drinking plenty of water and eating as much fresh fruits and vegetables as humanly possible. (Fruit roll-ups don’t count)
A bride to be should also schedule a facial at least one month prior to the big day. A visit to the spa can allow you the opportunity to have a professional advise you on special skin care tips for your skin type.
I know this one is easier said than done but try to stress less. Stress not only effects your emotional well being but it can effect your skin as well. Go for walks, take a yoga class or read. Refer back to tip number two, go get a facial or any spa service, just relax! Make time for yourself and smile, after all what’s there not to be happy about? Your getting married silly!
